Tufts on the Road

Beyond the Numbers: Breaking Down Highly Selective Admissions, an interactive, in-person, workshop designed by the Tufts University Office of Undergraduate Admissions, aims to show you what happens behind the scenes of a highly selective admissions process.

The program will highlight the following:

  1. Academics and campus life at Tufts University
  2. The different components of a college application and how those materials are evaluated by selective admissions offices
  3. Tips on successful essay writing and the impact of Tufts-specific short essays
  4. The role of recommendations and interviews in the process
  5. A case study designed to resemble the admissions process, featuring five real applications from prior Tufts applicants
National Portfolio Days provide an opportunity for you to meet with representatives from top colleges and universities and receive valuable feedback and guidance on your portfolio before you submit it as part of your application. When you visit SMFA’s booth, you’ll leave with portfolio feedback and an idea of how you and your art practice will fit into our unique program.

Parents, teachers, and guidance counselors of high school and college transfer students are also encouraged to attend this event to ask questions and learn more about pathways available to your students. This is an educational event; no admissions decisions or scholarship awards will be offered.

Due to the high attendance at National Portfolio Day events, portfolio reviews typically last about 15 minutes. To make the most of your time with admissions representatives, we recommend preparing a portfolio of 10-20 pieces that includes the work you’ve made in the last 2 years that you are most excited to share – no restrictions on medium or subject matter. You may bring original work or digital documentation on your own device, as Wi -Fi will be available.
